The Winning Team for hosting the EUROPEADA 2020 has been chosen

The 4th EUROPEADA, the European football championship of the autochthonous minorities, will take place in Carinthia/ Koroška in 2020.

Following an exciting and emotional competition between the two applicants:

1. The German-Danish border region (Region Sønderjylland-Schleswig) represented by the four minorities living in the area, with the motto "The EUROPEADA 2020 between the North Sea and the Baltic Sea – the cross-border football festival"

and

2. The Carinthian Slovenes with the motto "The EUROPEADA 2020 in Carinthia/Koroška – TOGETHER UNIQUE/SKUPNO ENKRATNI we celebrate the uniqueness of our diversity",

the winner was chosen at the FUEN Assembly of Delegates in Cluj-Napoca • Kolozsvár • Klausenburg, Romania, on the 20 May 2017.

The Carinthian Slovenes convinced the delegates with an emotional presentation as well as a coherent concept.

100 years after the plebiscite in Carinthia/Kärnten/Koroška, the EUROPEADA offers the Slovenian minority the opportunity to raise awareness for still existing problems in their homeland.

The German-Danish border region proved a great team performance and would have been a similar ambitious host for the EUROPEADA in 2020.

FUEN congratulates the Carinthian Slovenes and is looking forward to the cooperation and implementation of the EUROPEADA 2020 in Carinthia/ Kärnten/Koroška!

Background
EUROPEADA is a major European event that connects the fair competition and the enthusiasm for a sporting event with the interests of the autochthonous national minorities. The focus is on the encounter, the exchange of minorities and the public promotion. FUEN is the organiser of the EUROPEADA.

After the three successful European football championships of the autochthonous national minorities, hosted by the Romansh people in Grisons/Switzerland in 2008, the Lusatian Sorbs in Germany in 2012 and the German-speaking South Tyroleans and the Ladins in South Tyrol/Italy in 2016, will the 4th EUROPEADA take place in Carinthia/ Koroška hosted by the Carinthian Slovenes in 2020!

The tournament is open for teams of members of minorities from non-professional football leagues. The EUROPEADA will be an excellent opportunity for the host to present the minority and region to the European and domestic audience.
