MINORITY FILMFESTIVAL FLENSBURG + AABENRAA
25th - 27th of August 2005 Forum for Films of National Minorities in Europe

Aim:
The idea is to establish a small and very special film festival in Flensburg: Minority
Film Festival Flensburg - MFF, which will take place south and north of the border.
The MFF wants to focus on films of national minorities in Europe. And there is also
some space for films of minorities from Non-European countries. The MFF offers all
minorities an optimal platform of presentation in order to communicate and exchange
each other´s thoughts and opninions. A unique forum will take place.

Why Flensburg?
While searching for the best place for such a film festival a decision can only be
made in favour of a town which can show a historical basis. If you look at the history
of Flensburg it is obvious that this place offers optimum conditions: Two cultures,
two languages and exemplary coexistence for decades. And Flensburg is also the
seat of two outstanding and famous organisations:
EUROPEAN CENTRE FOR MINORITY ISSUES – ECMI
FEDERAL UNION OF EUROPEAN NATIONALITIES – FUEN

Facts:
During the last few years several films have been made on minorities in Canada,
Australia and New Zealand and have met with a greater interest even among the
German public. Several film institutions have mentioned the fact that also European
minority films have been shown. So it is time to realize a film festival on the topic of
"minorities" in 2005 and in the future also.

Target group:
The fim festival is primarily directed towards cineasts in Flensburg and in the Region
Sønderjylland/Schleswig. Further the festival will be able to reach a widespread
public: The border crossing cultural exchange will be recognized by visiters and
tourists.

Programme:
The programme of the first festival will be easy to grasp. The motto is: quality more
than quantity! After coming into contact with several national minorities in Europe
there are many interesting documentaries and features ready to be shown.

Five fields of interest will be in the centre of the programme:

Region Sønderjylland-Schleswig (cross border)
• D - Sydslesvigsk Forening (Danes)
• DK - Bund Deutscher Nordschleswiger
• D - Friisk Foriining (North Frisians)

Germany

United Kingdom
• GB - An Seneth Stenak Kernowek (Cornish)
